Old-Fashioned Chocolate Pudding

Whenever I come home, my Mom creates a list of things she’d like me to bake while I’m staying with her. This list always includes Cream Cheese Coffee CakePavlova, and anything with coffee, like No-Churn Coffee & Chocolate Chunk Ice Cream. This time though, at the top of her list was classic chocolate pudding. She remembers growing up eating all kinds of pudding and jello. A typical 1950’s kid in Chicago.

One of my fondest memories of my Grandma, was watching her work over the stove to create Tapioca pudding in the afternoons after school. I have a lot of British heritage so perhaps all the pudding comes from that.

So, in true best-daughter form, I made my Mom old-fashioned chocolate pudding. Thick, velvety, and rich with sweetness and chocolate, it hit the spot. It’s incredibly easy to make, and just requires that you stir constantly. Eventually, the stirring pays off and you are left with a classic smooth chocolate pudding, much like my Mom ate growing up.

Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint or consider a dollop of homemade whipped cream. This is a great dessert to feed when both adults and children are at the table, it’s truly classic, and brings everyone together.
