I cringe whenever I hear this term. I heard it for the first time when I made these incredible Flutternutter Bars a few months ago. Flutternutter refers to the combination of peanut butter and marshmallow. I had absolutely no idea that this was such a craze. Did you? Apparently Americans have known about this for years. And also apparently, as a nation, we eat such things as peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches. *Moment of pause.*
I realize I am not doing a great job in selling these cookies. While I can’t seem to get on board with a peanut butter marshmallow sandwich, I can get on board with these two ingredients paired together. And honestly, if you’ve never tried them together, then I really do encourage you to try. At least once. It doesn’t need to become a habit. I think you’ll be as pleasantly surprised as I was.
I was so happy with the Flutternutter bars, that I was excited to try the same combo in the form of cookies. And they were delicious! If you are a peanut butter lover, you will love these. They are rich in peanut butter flavor and even taste creamy. That’s a thing, right?
I ended up eating every last cookie. Usually, Fabien is a great help when it comes to ridding our counter tops of baked goods. However, like every other French person I’ve met to date, he does not like peanut butter. Okay, so peanut butter just must be super American. Again, did anyone else know this? The French love Nutella. So maybe they have never needed to jump on the nut butter train, since they are a country rich in actual butter and Nutella?
When I asked my French friend Helene, “What do the French eat instead of peanut butter?” She hesitated and then said, “Jam.” While our grocery store shelves are packed with every nut butter under the sun, offering different textures and “healthiness” levels, the same goes for jams in French grocery stores.
Anyways, whether you personally love peanut butter, or know someone, perhaps not French, that does, these will bring a great amount of pleasure. And who can turn down a nice pop of white marshmallow on top?
