Maple Chômeur

Maple Chômeur is a “poor man’s dessert” pudding from Quebec. Pure maple syrup has long been associated with Canada so it makes sense that is has found its way into many desserts as a natural sweetener. It is absolutely delicious. Usually, the simplest of desserts are.

You can make these using individual ramekins or you can make one big pudding, like I did, shown in the picture above. The Maple Chômeur has two components: a rich maple caramel sauce and the dumplings, which are sort of a cross between biscuits and cake. Because the cake isn’t too sweet, it can bathe in its maple syrup caramel and absorb some the sugar. It’s absolutely delicious. If you really want to go over the top, add some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

You. Are. Welcome.
